Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Fermentation Scientist or Engineer to execute robust and scalable fermentations using filamentous fungi for production of natural products in support of LifeMine’s genomically-enabled drug discovery platform.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct filamentous fungal fermentations using bioreactors at multiple scales
- Establish and optimize seed train for various wild-type and genetically engineered fungal strains targeted for large-scale fermentation production
- Identify and implement fermentation productivity improvements, scientific and engineering principles, as well as statistical process design and analysis
- Apply current industry best practices, proactively evaluate new technologies, stay current with relevant literature, and implement new features and functionality in the bioprocess development platform
- Engage in close, cross-functional collaborations with LifeMine’s Gcs, Strain Engineering, Microbiology, Natural Product Chemistry, and Bioinformatics groups to interpret data, reach conclusions, and make decisions
- Ensure safe and axenic operation of all fermentation equipment
Job Requirements
- MS or PhD in chemical engineering or related field with 2+ years of experience in fermentation process development using microbes
- Microbial fermentation expertise with bioreactors at multiple scales using non-conventional microbes. Filamentous fungal experience highly preferred
- Knowledge of and hands-on experience with fermentation process design, optimization (DOE), and mixing/mass transfer
- Working experience with statistical process design and analysis such as JMP and SpotFire
- Ability to identify complex problems, review data to determine root cause, evaluate options and implement solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in team environment, multitask anensure flexibility in a dynamic environment required
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to travel between our Gloucester and Cambridge locations
- An understanding of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing principles preferred
